Australians are proud of themselves!

We created a survey while back and sent it to some Australian respondents to examine a bit how the people Down Under see themselves. Five men and six women answered, ages varied between 15 and 50. Here's a summary of the results:

The first things that seem to come to the mind of the respondents' when thinking about Australia are typically Australian things like the sun, the beaches, kangaroos, outdoor living, etc. They see themselves as laid back and friendly folk; their attitude is carefree, easygoing and open-minded. 80% of the respondents said they were "very proud" to be Australians. Multi-culturality was also a theme that came up: all of the respondents saw Australia as a multi-cultural nation, especially the cities (one respondent told of living in a town of 25,000 people; there were around 45 different cultures represented in a high school of 500 students). Most respondents also considered Australia to have equality between sexes.

Australia was described as a young and multi-cultural country, and the nation was seen similar to its inhabitants: easygoing and open-minded. Clearly the best features of Australia were considered its natural richness and beauty. 90% of the respondents said Australia is "very much" an attractive nation when it comes to tourism. The worst sides weren't very prevalent in the survey; one of the worst sides listed was Australia not making it very far in the world cup. One response described one of the faults of Australia as being a nation that follows the world rather than leads it.

PR didn't seem to have a very strong image among Australians: the respondents weren't very sure of how to answer to a question concerning PR, though they did consider Australia to have a well-built image as a nation.

So, the Australians seem to like their country and be proud of it. No surprise, eh?
