Inspired by Jitske's text, I found an interesting page, where is different articles and writings about Australian PR and business communication etc.

Here is writing about social media and Australian PR companies which relates to Jitske's blogpost.

PR Agencies

Australian agencies have been slow taking up the practice of blogging for their own business.

Only one quarter of members of the PR industry group, the Registered Consultancies Group (RCG) have a company blog. But blogging allows so much freedom of expressions. I believe good communications has to encompass more than words. There are so many elements to an experience, that’s why I love social media, we can develop and share our opinions, images, videos, experiences, friendships, networking and more.

The RCG is part of the PRIA, Public Relations Institute of Australia, http://www.pria.com/.They seek to provide professional standards on consultancy operations for PR agencies.

"Publicity is the life of this culture - in so far as without publicity capitalism could not survive - and at the same time publicity is its dream."
John Berger, Ways of Seeing, 1980.

Promised land for PR pro's?

Press officer.
Executive assistant.
In-house journalist.
Media relations specialist.
External relations director.
Corporate affairs consultant.
Business communications manager.
Corporate communications manager.

Pick the title that attracts you. Skip the university and scat down under.

Ditto titles are all given or adopted job descriptions for public relations practitioners in Australia. In this country of contrasts anyone is able to use the title of public relations consultants and profit from it. No matter what kind of education, experience or understanding of ethics they have.

So why do we spend hours and hours studying this field?

Why wouldn't we just pack our bags and join the constantly mounting flow of backpacking in this "promised land"? Maybe in few years we would find our place in the country's diverse PR field and could finally leave the irritating cherry tomato picking.
